Older doors and openers
An older door usually means one of three jobs.
A door that was never meant to be automated
Adding an opener to an old door only works if the door is balanced and the springs are right for it. Balance is one of the checks in our 25-point audit, and an unbalanced door makes the motor work harder than it should.
A door at the end of its life
Sometimes a damaged panel can be repaired. Sometimes the whole door needs replacing.
A door that is fine but the hardware is not
Springs, cables, rollers and tracks wear out on their own schedule. Replacing them on a door that is still worth keeping usually costs far less than a new door.

Wood and carriage-house doors
For a house where the door is part of the architecture, our wood doors are custom-built. They use 1 3/8 inch thick frames, clear rail or finger jointed, with every stile locked together by full mortise and tenon joints into one solid frame.
Door Boy has been installing custom wood doors for over 30 years.
If you want the carriage-house look without the upkeep, there are three other routes:
Steel carriage and steel overlay, the same styling with a low-maintenance finish.
Vinyl carriage, cellular PVC formulated for long-term moisture resistance.
Fiberglass, with a molded high-definition wood grain over a steel core, which will not warp or rot in humidity.

Repairs we handle
Our service department covers all makes and models of doors and openers.
Broken springs. The most dangerous repair on a garage door. We install high-cycle springs rated to last twice as long as the industry standard.
Doors off track. We find the structural reason it came off, so it stays on.
Openers that have stopped working. Circuit boards and gears.
Doors that will not close. These calls get priority, because a door stuck open leaves your house open overnight.
Frayed cables. Replaced before they snap.
Our trucks carry parts for every major brand, so most of this is a one-visit job.
Every call also gets our 25-point safety and security audit: sensor alignment, auto-reverse force, hardware tightening, and lubrication and balance. New Jersey's freeze-thaw cycles are hard on garage door hardware: cold contracts metal tracks and thickens lubricant, which is how a working door ends up stuck.
Driveway gates
If your property has a driveway gate, or you want one, we install FAAC gate operators: the Model 415 and Twist'R for residential estate gates, with soft-stop and instant-reverse sensors for vehicles, pets and children, and the Model 400 hydraulic for commercial and high-traffic installations. Smartphone control, encrypted rolling-code radio, and battery backup for power outages.

Installers JR and Michael were a few minutes EARLY for our appointment. They were polite, neat, worked tirelessly and efficiently, and took a good amount of time to explain all of the features of the new garage door openers. I'm very happy with the service I received from Door Boy. Beginning with my first call to Roger, he was very courteous and pleasant. He responded professionally to all of my questions and kept his word as to when Dave, the awesome tech, would arrive and take measurements of my broken torsion spring. He actually was early, which almost never happens! Dave returned this morning to replace the springs and tune up the doors. My broken door was repaired in about 24 hours from my first call. Fast response and great service. My tension wires, rollers and rails all got out of whack. They got everything in perfect working order within 1 hour. Cost was exactly as communicated prior and very reasonable. No upsell , just expert service.
I had a problem with my door. Called first thing Monday morning - holiday week. They were able to come same day! In just a few hours time. Dave came, explained the problem, fixed it promptly. Saved the (holi)day. We (OK, it was me) had an "oopsie" and dented the garage door from the inside. Trapped in the garage, no second car today, and no vehicle outside. Day before Thanksgiving, heading to the grocery store to get fixings for dinner. To say that the 90+ year old matriarch was upset is an understatement. Techician came out SAME AFTERNOON, towards early end of their window. Dave left <1 hour later, with a repair to fully functional with only a minor dent noticeable. Now we can make the dreaded green bean casserole. No upcharge, no hassle. Our experience was exceptional.
